Quilting with Margo Ellis: Fantasy Fish Quilt Workshop

Join quilt artist and instructor Margo Ellis for this 4-week creative workshop exploring color, pattern, and imagination through fabric. Using a boldly printed fabric as inspiration, students will “find” fishy features within the print and design a one-of-a-kind imaginary fish, then assemble, machine appliqué, and quilt their piece into a finished wall hanging or table mat. This playful class is perfect for those with basic machine sewing skills and a love of whimsy and experimentation.

*Classes meet from 12:30-3:30pm on Tuesdays in February, beginning February 3rd, 2026.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  • ½ yard boldly printed fabric (Seam Shoppe staff can help you select)

  • ½ yard HeatnBond Lite

  • ½ yard background fabric

  • ¼ yard fabric for borders

  • Thread to coordinate or contrast

    Backing and batting can be purchased after your fish design is completed.

Notes:

Quilting with Margo Ellis: Bullseye Quilt Workshop

Join quilt artist & instructor Margo Ellis in this 4-week workshop as she teaches you, step by step, how to create a fun and creative bullseye quilt. This is a scrappy and easy project that can be varied in many ways. Directions are for a 36 x 54 quilt without borders. Margo will also be available to help you with any other quilting projects or questions! Beginner friendly.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  • Basic sewing supplies

  • Thread to match your fabric or it can contrast

  • This is a great use of all kinds of scraps so if you have scraps plan on bringing them

  • Fabric: 32 10” squares for backgrounds

  • 2 1⁄2 yards of purchasing fabric

  • 32 pieces (at least 8 inches square, 6 inches square and 4 inches square)

  • Backing, 2 yards

  • Batting

Quilting with Margo Ellis: Quilted Gifts for the Holidays

Join Instructor Margo Ellis in this 4-week workshop as she teaches you to make various quilted items to give as gifts: wine/water bottle bags, wallet in two sizes, luggage tags, bowl cozies, & more! Students should be familiar with basic quilting and using a sewing machine. Margo can also help with other quilting projects you bring to class! Machines available at Williams Hall. Supply fee $25 payable at the end of the last class.

Supplies Needed:
- Wallets: two ¼ yard pieces or scraps at least 10 x 20 inches, (fleece and snaps available in class)
- Wine bag: ⅜ yards each for bag and lining.
- Bowl cozies: coordinating 100% cotton fabric, two ½ yard pieces for 3 bowl cozies.
- Sizeable scraps are fine too!

Join quilt artist and instructor Margo Ellis for a 4-week workshop exploring the art of small quilt making. Using hand embroidery, paint, stitching, and embellishment techniques, you’ll create mini art quilts that can be finished as postcards or displayed as wall hangings. Along the way, you’ll learn essential hand embroidery stitches with floss, pearl cotton, and silk ribbon. A materials kit is required ($25) and includes patterns, threads, beads, yarns, and embellishments. As always, Margo will also be available to guide you on your own quilting projects throughout the class.
